Sound Effects!

This month's task is to write a poem that includes the use of sound effects. Same rules apply (see left hand column for details). I will be bringing a sound man and sound devices that any one can use if they wish to. You are also welcome to bring your own devices. The show will be at the Avant Garde Bar on 135 1/2 Besserer st, since the last show went so amazingly. I've included a few links to check out if you are at a loss like I was for the how-to park of sound effects. I'll leave a few examples below and I suggest taking look at the links, they offer some quick and easy reference for how to go about a theme like this.

The Links:

Some Examples:

Galloping horses Banging empty coconut shells together

Kissing Kissing back of hand

Punching someone Thumping watermelons High heels

Artist walks in high heels on wooden platform

Bone-breaking blow Breaking celery or bamboo or twisting a head of lettuce

Footsteps in snow Squeezing a box of corn starch

Star Trek sliding doors Pulling a piece of paper from an envelope

Star Wars sliding doors Flare gun plus sneakers squeak

Bird flapping its wings Flapping a pair of gloves

Grass or leaves crunching Balling up audio tape

Body Hitting the Ground – Plastic club hitting a cardboard box.

Body Falling in the Water – Push a toilet plunger into a tank of water.

Fire – manipulate a piece of stiff cellophane.

Slapping of a Face – slapping hand together.

Thunder – Shake a piece of Plexiglas.

Boiling Water – blowing through a straw into a glass of water.

Pulling Large Object from the Water – Fill a good sized tub with water and then pull a large bucket from the water.

Body Being Stabbed – Stab a melon with a carving knife.

Blow to the Head – Smack a head of cabbage with a bat or club.

Kissing – This is not as fun as you may think. The best way to get the sound of a good kiss is to kiss the back of your hand.

Flapping a Glove – A bird flying.

Rocket Hatch; Safe Dial – Spin the knob of a combination padlock.

Hope that helps. The show is on Tuesday August 28th at the Avant Garde at 8pm. Please come early to check out our sound devices and organize anything you need to with our sound man.

Hope to see you all there! Please tell anyone you know! Tell them to write! Tell them its free! Tell them its fun!

Cheers!

BALDERDASH

Ok. So. Wow. Our last show, Encore! was a complete success! Thanks to all the poets, musicians, sound techs, bartenders and friends who made this show everything it could be. Who knew that a poetry show at the oldest tavern in Ottawa could have an audience so quiet you could hear a pin drop! So, thankyou thankyou thankyou!

NOW. FOR THIS MONTH:

Balderdash!
July 30th, 8pm @ The Avant Garde Bar on 135 1/2 Besserer Street.

The objective of this month's theme, Balderdash, is to have all our poets write something that will fool their audience into thinking fiction is fact or fact is fiction or anything in between... take it as you will. Same rules apply as always (see left hand column).

Please tell all your friends! Tell them its fun, fantastic and free!

Hope to see you all there!

Been behind, but catching up.... THIS MONTH:

So! I've missed a month due to inconsistent Internet service. Junkpile, our show for March, went swell. The 'bad poetry' theme provided an interesting array of interpretations. Thanks again for coming out!

April's theme is called "Novel Ideas." This month all poets are asked to create an original piece inspired by their favorite novel. All the same rules apply (see left hand of screen for details).

"Novel Ideas" will be performed on Monday, April 30th, 2007 @ 9pm (SHARP! please), and will be held as always at Cafe Nostalgica (603 Cumberland Ave.).

There is much more to fill everyone in on, but it'll have to wait t'ill the show, cause I'm running out of my internet mins.

Cheers!

THE PITCH!

so. here we go.

On the 26th of Feb. (a monday of course), 9pm @ Cafe Nostalgica, we will be putting on another Poetic Intentions Poetry Show. The theme or assignment this month is: "The Pitch". Please procure a poetic pitch for performance. It will be a night of poems that... well... sell! Same rules apply (see left hand column).

Thanks again for last month. The zine release went very well and the next issue is well on its way for :characterbuilding: Dom's live illustrations of the characters described through the night are amazing. Anyone who performed last month and did not give me a copy of their poem please send it to me right away (if you want).

See you on the 26th!

Comming Up! A New Show and a Zine Release!

Ok!. So. Here we go.

We gotta a new show coming up, as you all know. One which I'm sure every one's been working at over the extended Holiday Season.

Here's the info:

January 29th @ 9pm @ Cafe Nostalgica - 603 Cumberland Ave.

Official "Character Building" poetry show AND the first issue release of Poetic Intentions' new poetry 'zine' : paper trail

All the poets who submitted their work after the .routes show were showcased.

And, don't forget, the same thing goes for this month's show: Those who submit their work to me at the end of the show will be published in the second issue (with the chance of having their character illustrated by one of Ottawa's best comic book artists - Dominic Bercier!).

Hope to see you all there!
